Prytanean Alumnae

The Alumnae Group for graduates of the first Women's Collegiate Honor Society in the country, the U.C. Berkeley Prytanean Honor Society, and Honorary Prytaneans.

The first collegiate Women's Honor Society in the United States

The Prytanean Women's Honor Society was established in 1901, just 33 years after the founding of the University of California and almost 20 years before women had the right to vote.

The Prytanean Pledge: Scholarship & Service

Prytaneans are selected not only for their exemplary scholarship, but also for their dedication to community service. Members pledge "faith, service and loyalty to the University of California," Berkeley.

A Legacy of Excellence and Community

Prytanean Alumnae comprises graduated Prytanean Honor Society Members, and initiated Honorary Prytaneans - women who have demonstrated service to U.C. Berkeley and have been invited to become a Prytanean.

Tradition of Service and Philanthropy

Today, through the donations and the volunteer efforts of Prytanean Alumnae, we have been able to create and support a number of ongoing efforts to benefit U.C. Berkeley and the community: Prytanean Faculty Enrichment Award, Mary Wiley Stecker and Prytanean Leadership Awards, Rowena Hamilton Award, grants and events.
