Lunar New Year marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.  It's a time for family reunions, for honoring ancestors and for thanking the gods for their blessings.  You are all invited to celebrate the Year of the Rat with your Cal family.

Friday, March 20, 2020 -- Special 10 Course Lunar New Year's Banquet at China Stix, Santa Clara, CA

   7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Banquet

   $49 / person

Banquet Menu: This specially selected New Year's Banquet menu is prepared by Master Chef Frank Chang, owner of China Stix Restaurant, who is  well known in culinary circles in China.  Past Banquets have included such delicacies as Tea Smoked Quail, Spicy Cucumber Rolls, Lobster Noodles and Minced Duck with Lettuce Cups, among other equally delectable offerings.

Scholarship Fund Raising Raffle:  In addition to Cal themed items, the highlight of the raffle is the traveling Oski statue. The lucky winner takes it home for a year, before passing it on to the next year's lucky winner.  All funds raised from the raffle are dedicated to the Club's CAA TAAP Scholarship.

Year of the Rat - 2020

The Metal Rat is associated with the the hours of midnight.  In terms of yin and yang, the Rat is yang and represents the beginning of a new day.  Also, Rats are seen as symbols of wealth and surplus.  Those born in this year have optimism and energy that make them highly likable. These Rats can be trusted and relied on. They also have the ability to turn unfortunate situations into fortunate ones.

Rat years:  1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020, 2012, 2024.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES!   Please contact Daniel Schneider (Club president) at 408-364-1234, if you can help.

WEBMASTER:  The Club is in need of a Webmaster.  No coding required.  The website is already in place and is managed by the CAA.  It needs to be maintained and updated with Club information.

MEMBERSHIP CHAIR:  The Membership Chair will work with the Treasurer to keep an accurate and up-to-date list of the Club's members.  The Chair will create mailing labels for the Blues News, several times a year.

HISTORIAN:  The Historian will keep and organize all information relating to the Club.
